Purpose
The
Ochwilla Elementary Counselor works in partnership with parents and
teachers
for the benefit of Ochwilla students. The program focus is academic
achievement
and success for each student in combination with personal enrichment
and
development. Ochwilla’s program of services is preventive and
sequential
in nature and based on student growth and needs in an effort to assist
students in reaching their highest potential as they work through each
age and stage of development.
Individual
Counseling
The
counselor is available to you or your child on a short-term, individual
basis. Referrals can be made by calling the main office (481-0204),
sending
a note via your child’s teacher, or your child may contact the
counselor
directly. Close communication between parents and counselors is
encouraged
so that maximum benefit can be achieved.
Additional Services
Child Study: The counselor acts as chairperson for Ochwilla’s Child Study Team which identifies, evaluates, and develops strategies for those students who need special services.
Gifted Education: The counselor participates in identification and placement of students eligible for gifted education program services.
Test Interpretation: The counselor assists teachers and parents with the interpretation of standardized test scores resulting from Florida's State Standardized Testing Program.
Transition to Middle School: The counselor works with students, parents, and middle school staff in course selection, scheduling, placement, and transfer of cumulative student records.
Summer School Program Contact Person: The counselor coordinates the identification of eligible summer school students and application procedures.
Student Recognition Programs and School Spirit Rallies: The counselor assists the principal and other school staff with the coordination and implementation of special activities designed to recognize student contributions and accomplishments and promote positive school climate.
Character Education: The counselor coordinates the implementation of the school-wide character education program.
Meet Mrs.Theobold
Mrs. Theobold
earned
her B.S. degree in psychology from the Florida State
University
in 2000. Then went on to earn a Master's degree in School
Counseling
from the University of West Alabama. Mrs. Theobold started at
Ochwilla
Elementary in the fall of 2003. She enjoys spending time with her
husband, who is also in education and her boxer. Her hobbies
include
reading, cooking and playing the saxophone.
