"Open Airways For Schools" is
a major initiative of the American Lung Association to help children with
asthma in the elementary school setting.
The purpose of the program is to teach children through trained instructors,
like Mrs. Haynes, how to prevent asthma episodes and emergencies.
This is accomplished by creating partnerships in asthma care with
school nurses, teachers, physicians, and families. In this way, children
with asthma can turn to adults both at school and at home to help them perform
better in school and lead healthier lives.
