Media Center Circulation Policies

Number of Items
Students in Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade are allowed to check out one book at a time. As soon as that book is returned, they are encouraged to take another. Students in grades 2-5 may check out two items at a time. Parents may check out any number of books to share with their children.

Circulation Period
After one week, books are overdue. No fines are charged for overdue books, but any books that are lost or damaged must be paid for before another book can be checked out. Special arrangements for taking care of lost books can be made by contacting Mrs. Woodard, who is in charge of book circulation.

Hours of Operation
Our Media Center is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each school day.

Media Center Philosophy
In the education of children, an abundance of print and non-print materials is essential if individual interests, needs, and abilities of students are to be met. These resources are the basic tools necessary for effective teaching and learning.  They must be carefully selected, comprehensive in scope, well-organized, and readily accessible.

In this age of rapidly changing technology, the scope of knowledge has become too vast to be covered extensively within the boundaries of classroom instruction. If students are to survive and succeed in the future, they must have both the desire and the ability to access needed information.

Reading is the single most important skill in determining the future success of our students. Research suggests that children who read not only increase their general knowledge but also their ability to comprehend. A wide variety of literature and literature-based activities will encourage our students to discover the magic, joy, and wonder that can come from reading.

Media Center Goals

*To provide books and audiovisual materials in all formats that support the curriculum of our  school and that meet the instructional  and personal information needs of our students.

*To ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information.

*To expose our students to a wide variety of literature and literature-based activities that will encourage them to become lifelong readers for education and pleasure.
