| I
have had the pleasure of working at Ochwilla since the summer before we
opened in August of 1992. Even though I have
been a media specialist for 31 years, I still enjoy coming to work
every day and count the opening of Ochwilla's media center among my
most exciting and rewarding work experiences. What fun it was to select
and arrange a complete collection of new furnishings and materials!
Soon after that, I was the recipient of a Retrofit for Technology grant
that enabled us to wire the entire school for Internet access. My
most recent professional adventure was earning National Board
certification, and in that capacity I now enjoy the challenge of
mentoring
other teachers
and candidates. One of my favorite and most important job responibilities is to help our students discover the world of books. Our media center is open to everyone in the school community and is designed to excite students and to motivate, inspire, and encourage them to learn new things. Children who LEARN HOW to read and CHOOSE to read will be successful students. I've never seen it fail. My husband of 31 years, Jodie, is a research chemist at the University of Florida. My two children attended Ochwilla Elementary. Joshua is now a senior at UCF in Orlando, majoring in Digital Media and Jenna is a sophomore at University of FL in Gainesville, considering a major in Anthropology. In my free time, I love to travel to new places and learn as much as I can about them. I also enjoy gardening, listening to music, attending cultural events, taking daily walks, visiting with my large extended family (I'm the oldest of 7 siblings), and reading materials of all types. I invite to you visit our Media Center any time. "The
mind, stretched by a new
idea, never goes back to its original dimension."
